The Sorrento Peninsula and Amalfi Coast are still burning: some homes in Arola have been evacuated.

A vast fire continues to rage across the Sorrento Peninsula and the Amalfi Coast, with several blazes raging across the provinces of Naples and Salerno. The flames, high and fanned by the wind, are visible from Posillipo and are devouring brushwood and trees in several locations across the region.

The emergency particularly affects the areas of Vico Equense, Agerola, Amalfi, Positano, and Conca dei Marini. As a precaution, firefighters ordered the evacuation of several homes in the Arola district of Vico Equense, in the areas considered most at risk.

Firefighters, civil defense teams, and volunteers are working tirelessly on site. Extinguishing operations are proving particularly complex due to the rugged nature of the terrain and the gusts of wind that are encouraging the fire to spread and making the fire fronts unstable.

Rescue workers' priority is to contain the flames' spread, prevent the fire from reaching homes and accommodations, and secure residents and others in the most threatened areas. Ground operations will continue throughout the night; air support may be necessary during daylight, weather conditions and the situation at the fronts permitting.

The Amalfi state road remains open for now, while the sections closest to the areas affected by the fire are being carefully monitored.
This is the latest in a series of fires that have hit the area over the weekend.

The most damaged area was San Pietro, in Positano, but fires were also reported in the Amalfi and Conca dei Marini areas.

The cause is currently under investigation. Among the hypotheses being examined is a possible malicious act, but it will be necessary to await the results of the investigations by law enforcement and the relevant authorities.
