Nightlife in Vomero cracks down: increased surveillance zones are in place.

Naples—A drastic response to curb petty crime and restore livability to one of the Campania capital's iconic neighborhoods. The Prefect of Naples, Michele di Bari, has ordered the establishment of "enhanced surveillance zones" in the Vomero neighborhood. The decision came at the conclusion of the Provincial Committee for Public Order and Safety on September 17, which included the heads of the Police Force, the City of Naples, and the Public Prosecutor's Office.

The action plan puts the Vomero area's key youth gathering and commercial hubs under scrutiny, which have been severely tested by the massive weekend influx:

Main squares: Piazza Vanvitelli and Piazza degli Artisti.

Parks and urban complexes: The perimeter area of ​​Mascagna Park.

Shopping and entertainment streets: Via Bertini, Via Kaufmann, Via Ruoppolo, Via Piccini, Via Conca, Via Alvino, and Via Merliani.

The new strategy is not limited to simply strengthening joint patrols for timely interventions, but introduces a particularly stringent prevention measure.

The crackdown on criminals

A complete ban on loitering in the designated areas applies to anyone who has been reported for non-negligent crimes against persons or property in the last five years. The ban will apply to anyone engaging in violent, threatening, or harassing behavior that may restrict the free use of public spaces.

The measure, adopted pursuant to Article 9 of Legislative Decree 14/2017, aims to defuse youth violence before it escalates. The Prefecture's stated objective is twofold: to crack down on illegal activities and to ensure constant oversight to protect the dignity and safety of residents.
