Villa Comunale, Manfredi: "Restoration is a priority." The first phase of Lot 1 has been completed.

Returning the Villa Comunale to the city in all its splendor. This is the goal outlined by Naples Mayor Gaetano Manfredi during a technical inspection of the progress of the restoration of the large waterfront park.

"Restoring the Villa Comunale to the city in all its splendor is a strategic priority for our Administration. The work carried out in Lot 1 demonstrates a rigorous approach that combines the protection of the historical and monumental heritage with the modernization of infrastructure and utilities," said Manfredi.

The first two phases of Lot 1 have been completed, and work is now underway to plan the second phase of works. Projects already completed include resurfacing the pavement, replacing the original tuff paving with a draining surface, and maintenance of underground utilities, including resolving excavation interference and leveling the manholes.

The street lighting systems and furnishings were also renovated. New conduits for public lighting were installed, the flowerbed irrigation system was restored with automated sprinklers, the fountains were repaired, and the benches were maintained. The waste bins were also renewed, in collaboration with Asia, and the curbs and walkways were fixed.

Particular attention was paid to the tree and historical heritage. Phytostatic assessments identified the affected trees requiring targeted pruning and felling, followed by the necessary safety measures and landscaping. The project also included statues, stonework, gates, and metal structures, as well as the playground.

«The decision to continue the work while keeping the Villa open is a sign of respect towards the Neapolitans and visitors, who can continue to experience this extraordinary green lung while we complete its definitive relaunch», added Manfredi.

In the coming weeks, the construction site will enter a new phase, without compromising the park's usability. The plans include completing the restoration and repainting of the street lighting, restoring gates, fences, and metal structures, as well as overhauling the stone cladding of the perimeter base and upgrading the fencing.

Also planned are paving work in the area near Piazza della Repubblica, the completion of the restoration of statues, herms, and pedestals, new planting, and the regeneration of the lawns.

"The work done to date on the tree population and green areas of Lot 1 has been impressive and extensive: from VTA phytostatic analyses to tree safety measures, up to the installation of new automated irrigation systems," emphasized Green Areas Councilor Vincenzo Santagada.
