Naples cracks down on nightlife on Via Petrarca: security summit scheduled for Tuesday

Prefect Michele Di Bari convenes the Provincial Committee following residents' complaints about traffic, noise, illegal parking, and traffic violations. High-impact checks have already been conducted: 80 people identified, 38 vehicles inspected, and two illegal parking attendants fined.

The goal: balance between fun and safety

Ensuring the possibility of enjoying nightlife without turning evenings into a problem for residents, motorists, and emergency vehicles. This is the principle advocated by Naples Prefect Michele Di Bari, who has called a meeting of the Provincial Committee for Public Order and Safety for Tuesday.

The meeting will focus on the critical issues related to nightlife in the city's scenic areas, particularly along Via Francesco Petrarca in the Posillipo district.

The goal will be to identify flexible and coordinated measures that reconcile the needs of recreation with safety, regular road traffic, and compliance with the rules of civil coexistence.

Residents struggling with traffic, noise and illegal parking

The Committee's convocation follows a series of reports of particularly critical situations, especially during nighttime hours.

The problems highlighted include traffic congestion, noise emissions, illegal parking, and more generally incidents attributable to widespread illegality, with particular attention to violations of the Highway Code.

This situation, especially on weekends, could cause traffic difficulties along one of the main arteries in the hilly and panoramic area of ​​Naples.

High impact controls

The authorities' attention to the Posillipo area is not new. In recent weeks, targeted, high-impact patrols have been conducted by the police force in collaboration with the Municipal Police.

The results of the operations include 80 identified people, 25 of whom were found to have previous police records, and 38 vehicles subjected to checks.

Eight motorists were fined for traffic violations, totaling €6.400. During the operation, two illegal parking attendants were also identified and fined.

The priority: ensuring the passage of emergency vehicles

One of the central topics of Tuesday's meeting will be road safety. Specifically, the Committee will address the problem of traffic jams and illegally parked cars that can impede the passage of emergency vehicles.

Particular attention will be paid to ensuring the access of firefighters and healthcare facilities at all times, especially in situations requiring immediate intervention.

The issue is particularly significant along Via Petrarca and on the access roads to the area, where the simultaneous presence of numerous cars and pedestrians can make traffic more difficult during peak hours.

All-night checks and tow trucks

Among the options that will be explored during the Committee meeting is a coordinated and dynamic control system, with the presence of law enforcement along the main access roads to Via Petrarca throughout the night.

Tow trucks could also play a role, with the aim of removing vehicles left in an irregular position, particularly on scenic sidewalks and in double parking.

A crackdown that aims to address not only the behavior of nightlife attendees, but also road safety.

The key message expressed by Prefect Di Bari is therefore one of balance: protecting the right to recreation while simultaneously ensuring safety, livability, and compliance with the rules.

Tuesday's meeting between the Prefecture, the police and the Municipality will serve to define any new control devices and to calibrate the interventions on the critical issues that continue to emerge during the night hours in Posillipo.
