Ercolano: A retaining wall collapses on the Circumvesuviana tracks, slowing the line and prompting a meeting at the Prefecture.

Ercolano – Heavy rains over the past few hours continue to cause disruption to traffic and the surrounding area. In the early hours of this morning, a retaining wall collapsed along the Circumvesuviana tracks, between the Ercolano-Scavi and Ercolano-Miglio d'Oro stations.

To assess the situation and coordinate the response, the Prefect of Naples, Michele di Bari, urgently called a meeting of the Rescue Coordination Center (CCS) at the Government Palace. The meeting was attended by the Mayor of Ercolano, the leaders of the EAV (Ente Autonomo Volturno), representatives of the Fire Brigade, and law enforcement.

Interventions and impact on rail traffic

The Fire Brigade responded immediately, working with technicians from EAV and the Municipality of Ercolano to begin the initial safety measures in the area.

According to a statement from the EAV transport company, the landslide affected a section of approximately 40 meters. Emergency teams are currently working to remove debris and consolidate the section. Rail traffic is continuing on a single track with alternating traffic and at reduced speeds; this is inevitably causing delays and inconvenience for commuters, but the company hopes to restore normal traffic by the early afternoon.

The Municipality's measures

In parallel with operations on the railway line, the Ercolano municipal administration is preparing emergency and contingent ordinances to protect public and private safety. These measures will be directed to the owners of land and buildings above the collapsed wall, so that they can proceed immediately to secure their properties.
