Acerra: 57-year-old arrested for burning plastic to recover red gold

Acerra – The Carabinieri have issued a maximum alert regarding fires and arsonists, especially in the area north of Naples.

This morning, around 1:00 a.m., officers from the local Acerra station—on a special mission to combat environmental crimes—arrested a 57-year-old local man, already known to law enforcement, for arson.

The man was caught in Contrada Area di Settembre while setting a fire, intending to strip copper cables of their plastic coating, known as "red gold." The flames were extinguished. The 57-year-old is now awaiting trial.
