The post office on Via Del Cassano
Naples – He had just withdrawn his pension, a thousand euros in cash, from the post office on Via del Cassano. A routine, uneventful ride home on his bicycle turned into a nightmare within minutes. This is the tragic robbery that took place on July 24th in the Secondigliano neighborhood of Naples, and investigations led to the arrest of the two alleged perpetrators today.
According to investigators' reconstruction, the victim—a 73-year-old man—was followed as he exited the post office by two criminals in a car. To stop him and force him to surrender, the criminals didn't hesitate to attempt to run him over with their vehicle. Once they had him under control, they threatened to kill him, confronting him with extreme violence, and then snatching the thousand euros he had just withdrawn and his iPhone from his pockets before quickly fleeing.
The investigative efforts conducted by the State Police, coordinated by the Naples Public Prosecutor's Office (led by Deputy Prosecutor Francesco Soviero), have gathered crucial evidence against the two suspects. This morning, the Preliminary Investigations Judge of the Court of Naples issued a precautionary custody order against the two men, held responsible for the crime of aggravated robbery.
