Two canning companies in the Agro Nocera area have been fined for illegal dumping into the Sarno River.

Illegal discharges into the Sarno River: one company in Mercato San Severino was seized, while the other—located in the Fosso Imperatore industrial area in Nocera Inferiore—had already ceased operations, but were inspected as part of the environmental monitoring program for the Sarno River.

The operation was coordinated by the Nocera Inferiore Public Prosecutor's Office in implementation of the protocol signed by the Naples Public Prosecutor's Office and the Salerno Public Prosecutor's Office, and conducted by Judicial Police officers serving with the Nocera Inferiore Carabinieri Territorial Unit, the Guardia di Finanza, the Carabinieri Ecological Operations Unit, together with ARPAC and ISPRA personnel.

The military conducted inspections at two canning plants in Nocera Inferiore and Mercato San Severino. The investigations revealed violations of environmental regulations regarding industrial wastewater discharges. Regarding the plant located in the Fosso Imperatore area, following the investigations, despite the violations found, the Prosecutor's Office did not proceed with the seizure of the plant and the affected areas, given that production had ceased due to the end of the working season and therefore there was no risk of recurrence of the polluting effects of production.

With reference to the Mercato San Severino company – prosecutor Luigi Alberto Cannavale specifies in a statement – ​​an illegal dump was identified, in relation to which a seizure was triggered in order to prevent its use pending further technical chemical/biological investigations.
