Vomero is under lockdown, with a permanent garrison set up in Piazza Vanvitelli: crackdown on crime and parking restrictions.

Naples – The commercial and nightlife hub of Naples is undergoing a major transformation to respond decisively to recent news events. The Prefect of Naples, Michele di Bari, has ordered the immediate establishment of a permanent joint police station in the central Piazza Vanvitelli, in the Vomero neighborhood.

This drastic and tangible measure was adopted following a coordinated process and in line with the decisions of the Provincial Committee for Public Order and Safety.

A fixed and rotating garrison to secure the living room of Vomero

The new control room in the area doesn't rely on makeshift solutions but on a constant and structured presence. Starting today, the Piazza Vanvitelli area will see the permanent and rotating presence of mixed teams composed of law enforcement, local police, and metropolitan police.

The primary objective is twofold: on the one hand, to prevent crime and nip in the bud any potentially dangerous situations, and on the other, to re-establish direct and reassuring contact between institutions and citizens, guaranteeing a visible and accessible guardian of the law for those who live and work in the neighborhood.

Enhanced surveillance area: restrictions and hotspots are in place.

The permanent position in Piazza Vanvitelli is part of a broader framework of enhanced surveillance that already affects a dense network of key streets and squares, including:

  • Mascagna Park and its surrounding areas
Via Bertini, Via Kaufmann, Via Ruoppolo and Via Piccini
Via Conca, Artists' Square, Via Alvino and Via Merliani

The most stringent measure introduced by the security package concerns the absolute ban on loitering in designated areas for individuals who have been reported for non-negligent crimes against persons or property in the last five years. The ban particularly affects those who engage in violent, threatening, or persistently harassing behavior that may restrict the free use of public spaces.

Dynamic patrols and constant monitoring

The permanent presence is accompanied by a significant increase in active patrols—both on foot and in cars and motorcycles—concentrated especially during the most sensitive time slots, namely weekend afternoons and nights.

The Prefecture has announced that the security plan will not be a one-off initiative: the system will remain flexible and will be constantly monitored to adapt in real time to the specific needs of the neighborhood and ensure an immediate, firm, and lasting state response.
