Aversa, pact for legality: Don Saggiomo meets with Mayor Matacena to address youth violence.

Talking to young people before it's too late. This was the guiding principle of the meeting held yesterday between the Guarantor of the Rights of Persons Deprived of Personal Liberty of the Province of Caserta, Don Salvatore Saggiomo, and the mayor of Aversa, Dr. Francesco Matacena. At the heart of the discussion was the proposal for an institutional collaboration aimed at promoting legality and preventing youth hardship in the Normandy region, building on the experiences already underway in other municipalities in the Caserta area.

The Guarantor's voice: "Get there before prison."

"Prison is the final consequence of a judicial process," emphasizes Don Salvatore Saggiomo. "Our task, especially when we talk about young people, is to try to get there first. We must meet with these kids, listen to them, and talk to them about freedom, responsibility, respect for the rules, and the consequences of their choices.

We can't wait for the first arrest or the first trial to start talking about legality." The goal is therefore to reiterate that authentic freedom is based on awareness and respect for others.

A team for the territory between schools and associations

The idea presented to the City Council calls for a large public meeting open to students, institutions, and civil society. The project aims to involve key figures from the scientific and NGO worlds, including:

Professor Arturo Formola, sociologist and director of the "Don Peppe Diana" Prison Observatory of the Province of Caserta.

The Officina Volturno Study Center Association and Informare Magazine have always been at the forefront of the fight against organized crime.

Engineer Ortensio Falco, with his consolidated experience in educational activities for schools.
Giusy Luminoso of the Generazione Progresso Association, active in social awareness projects.

The local branches of the National Carabinieri Associations of Aversa and the Carabinieri Association of Umberto I of Naples.

Towards a permanent educational alliance

More than a single event, the proposal aims to lay the foundation for a permanent network that brings schools, local authorities, and citizens together. Mayor Matacena has received a request for moral patronage and an invitation to jointly define the organizational details for the launch of the initiative.
"The child first, then the crime. Prevention first, then repression. Freedom first, because prison should be the last resort, not the first response."
