The Cardarelli Hospital
Two permanent positions and 211 applicants. This is the figure emerging from the competition for a medical director in Obstetrics and Gynecology announced by the Cardarelli Hospital in Naples, where participation was particularly high.
The 211 candidates took the written test on September 24th and were called again today to the Moriello Hall in the central pavilion for the practical test, while the oral test is scheduled for this afternoon.
The selection process also attracted professionals from outside the region, with candidates arriving from Milan, Brescia, and Campobasso. There was also a significant presence of young people: many of the applicants were under 35.
The majority of the participants are female, with 152 candidates compared to 59 male candidates. Regarding training, 110 participants are already specialists, while 101 are completing graduate school.
For the hospital's general director, Antonio d'Amore, the participation represents an important signal for the future of the facility. "The overwhelming response from young gynecologists to our competition demonstrates the interest Cardarelli enjoys as an attractive and prestigious hospital," d'Amore stated.
The director general emphasized that the result is "absolutely counter to the Italian scenario, which is seeing a flight of medical personnel from public hospitals."
According to d'Amore, the professionals' interest is the result of a process developed in recent years through staff development, the arrival of new professionals, the acquisition of technologies, and the reorganization of spaces and care pathways.
"Having succeeded in making Cardarelli attractive again for young professionals means guaranteeing exciting prospects for our hospital and for the regional healthcare system," he concluded.
Meanwhile, Cardarelli has also seen significant growth in robotic surgery in gynecology. In the first eight months of 2026, approximately 80 procedures were performed using this technology, compared to an average of about 25 in previous years.
