NAPLES. A permanent consultation table to involve the medical associations in planning and monitoring major healthcare reforms in Campania. This is the proposal put forward by the Regional Coordination of the Medical Associations of Surgeons and Dentists during a meeting with the President of the Campania Region, Roberto Fico.
The meeting was attended by the presidents of the provincial Orders Francesco Sellitto for Avellino, Luca Milano for Benevento, Carlo Manzi for Caserta, Giovanni D'Angelo for Salerno and Bruno Zuccarelli for Naples.
"This is a positive and constructive discussion that can lead to a stable collaboration in the best interests of Campania's healthcare system," the Coordination Committee emphasized at the end of the meeting.
The doctors' representatives emphasized that they found the governor attentive and willing to listen to them on key strategic issues for the future of the regional healthcare system.
"We proposed establishing a permanent consultation panel that would involve the Medical Associations in planning and monitoring major healthcare reforms in Campania."
At the heart of the debate was the need to develop a unified plan for the regional healthcare network, entrusted to a single control room capable of coordinating the system's various components.
"We need a comprehensive vision. The hospital plan and the regional plan must be part of a single plan that involves hospitals, community centers, and accredited private facilities."
According to the Coordination, only a strategy built on the real healthcare needs of the local areas can guarantee adequate services and simultaneously avoid overlapping healthcare offerings and deficiencies in citizen care.
Another key issue concerns the future of the Community Houses. The Orders are calling for these facilities to become fully operational through the integrated involvement of general practitioners, outpatient specialists, employed physicians, nurses, physiotherapists, and other healthcare professionals.
The goal is to ensure at least twelve hours a day of prevention, management of chronic diseases, and care for low-complexity cases, thus helping to reduce pressure on emergency rooms.
Among the priorities outlined during the meeting was combating assaults against doctors and healthcare workers. The Coordination Committee called for the approval of a regional resolution capable of introducing uniform organizational procedures in healthcare facilities.
"We need video surveillance systems, security guards, adequate space for family members, and dedicated staff to communicate with patients and their caregivers."
Some bureaucratic and organizational issues have also been addressed. The Orders are calling for specialists to be given back the ability to directly prescribe tests and services for their own purposes, and for doctors in public facilities to be allowed to send medical certificates directly to INPS through the integration of IT systems.
Finally, the Coordination highlighted the need to redefine the need for healthcare personnel and introduce financial and organizational incentives for professionals working in the most disadvantaged locations.
The Medical Associations have reiterated their willingness to collaborate with the Campania Region to contribute to the construction of a more efficient, modern, and citizen-friendly healthcare system.
