Castellammare, the rediscovered sea risks drowning in delays and waste.

The "rediscovered sea" of Castellammare risks being tainted by missteps, lies, and waste. This is the indictment of Democrats and Progressives, who see "much propaganda and little planning" behind the regained bathing suitability and are calling for a project that enhances its value, clarity, and determination.

According to the statement, three issues need to be addressed: improvisation and waste on public beaches, new extensions of beach concessions, and ambiguity regarding the beach assigned to Marina di Stabia. The "flurry of actions, decisions, second thoughts, and last-minute solutions" risks dampening the enthusiasm the city felt when the sea became safe to swim again and Castellammare, in everyone's eyes, became more beautiful.

Six hundred thousand euros, then the dismantling

In recent days, the equipment installed along the seafront in Villa Comunale, including the changing rooms, has been dismantled. They write that approximately €600 was spent on those facilities over two years. Today, they can't even secure a restroom. The question is whether the same pattern will repeat itself next year. To avoid this, a project and a tender are needed in the coming weeks to ensure lower costs and better facilities starting in 2027.

The extension and the act that does not exist

Regarding the concessions, the group challenges a technical extension based on the lack of a municipal policy. The Extraordinary Commission's resolution recalls that Council Resolution No. 168 of June 18, 2025, approved the initial guidelines for the implementation of Law 118/2022, as amended by Law 166/2024, deferring the effectiveness of existing concessions to September 30, 2026 and postponing the implementation program to a later date. "This hasn't been done in a year," they write.

The same resolution deems it "essential" to provide clear guidance to the sector manager, so that he or she can prepare the technical and administrative documents for the tenders and a timeline that addresses the expiration of the old certificates, set by law for September 30, 2027. It will be up to the Prefectural Commission to adopt this guidance and remedy a situation the group describes as confusing.

Regardless of the TAR ruling on Capri and other pronouncements, Castellammare's concerns are the lack of a policy document and the failure to launch the tenders. These factors, according to the statement, have also been used by commissioners and offices to push for a new extension. Democrats and Progressives disagree with the decision. There are nine months left until the deadline for finalizing the new contracts, June 2027: a timeframe they believe is sufficient to avoid "unjustified technical extensions." There is also no timetable to justify them. They are calling on the Special Commission to revoke the decisions.

The 12 meters of Marina di Stabia

The group has long been pushing for the return of over 12 square meters of beach entrusted to Marina di Stabia, intended for a sailing school that, despite delays in land-based construction, never opened. This request must be reiterated to the Region and other authorities. The approved PUAD, they point out, lacks any consideration for that stretch of Corso De Gasperi and the Pozzano side. The only action involved revoking the concessions for equipped beaches.

A project, not a photographed dive

The sea, restored in 2024, after years of work but also delays and mistakes, should spur us to work with the Region and the Metropolitan City, especially after the news of the investment in the Sarno River, on a project to enhance the waterfront. "The Castellammare sea deserves much more than propaganda.

It deserves a serious, transparent, and long-lasting project." It cannot be reduced, they conclude, to a symbolic initiative, a collective dive in costume and a few photographs. A serious project should have included programming, services, facilities, safety, accessibility, and long-lasting management.
