He took advantage of the confusion on the Pompeii station platform to approach a tourist and steal his cell phone from his pocket. The theft occurred aboard an EAV train on the Naples-Sorrento line, but the escape lasted only moments: a man born in 63 was arrested by the State Police on charges of theft by sleight of hand.
The incident occurred during an escort service conducted by officers from the Judicial Police Squad of the Campania Railway Police Department. The officers observed the man's behavior at the Pompeii station, where he allegedly positioned himself behind the tourist, taking advantage of the crowd.
After following the victim onto the train, the man allegedly stole the phone from her pants pocket. Then, just before the doors closed, he exited the train in an attempt to escape. Officers, however, caught up with him and stopped him. During the search, he was found in possession of the cell phone that had just been stolen from the tourist. After the investigation, the man was arrested and the stolen goods were returned to their rightful owner.
