Naples: Control room for thefts and robberies in Borgo Orefici

This morning, the Prefect of Naples convened a meeting to establish the control room responsible for implementing the Memorandum of Understanding on video alarms and security, signed on June 18th at the central level with the Ministry of the Interior.

The goal is to define common collaboration criteria to strengthen measures to prevent and combat illegal activities affecting the gold, jewelry, silver, and watchmaking sectors. Participants included law enforcement representatives, the regional president of Federpreziosi, Ciko Orefice, as well as the president of Borgo Orefici and member of the Confcommercio board, Roberto De Laurentiis. Fiorella Serpico, a member of the Federpreziosi and Confcommercio Sorrento board, was also present.

The steering committee, which brings together institutions and industry partners, will meet periodically at the Prefecture to plan and coordinate interventions aimed at preventing and combating thefts, robberies, and break-ins affecting the gold and watchmaking sector through a participatory security strategy.

A key aspect of the initiative is the strengthening of video surveillance and alarm systems in jewelry stores, in conjunction with law enforcement operations rooms to ensure timely interventions.

The Prefectural Committee will also conduct local monitoring activities on the trend of specific crimes and will promote training programs and the sharing of best practices to increase risk awareness among industry professionals. Particular attention will be paid to the exchange of information between the various stakeholders, in order to facilitate direct, two-way communication between institutions and operators to report anomalies or dangerous situations. This commitment is part of a fundamentally important framework: the goldsmith sector represents a pillar of the local economy, capable of combining high-quality craftsmanship and innovation and offering training and employment opportunities to young people.
