Pozzuoli – Two illegal landfills have been discovered and seized: an investigation is underway to determine whether any waste is buried. This is the outcome of an operation by officers from the Pozzuoli Municipal Police's Ecology Unit, led by Commander Fabio Felice De Silva, during an environmental inspection on Via Vicinale Campana, with the support of an Italian Army patrol – Operation Land of Fires, commanded by Colonel Francesco Leo.
Fifteen thousand square meters of agricultural land had been transformed into a massive waste dump. The inspection led to the identification and precautionary seizure of an entire agricultural plot of approximately 15 square meters, containing a significant amount of various types of waste.
During the inspection, officers found plastic and glass materials, bottles, numerous black bags containing household waste, construction waste, corrugated pipes, soil, sand, tires, a cable reel, a section of a guardrail, and a rusty tub. They also noted the presence of excavations within the land, which could also indicate the possible burial of waste. Additional waste materials were hidden among the brushwood in the area.
On the same day, the Ecology Unit conducted a further operation on Via Pietrarse, where they identified another agricultural area affected by the presence of numerous waste items, including plastic, textile, wood, and construction materials, ferrous components, and vehicles without license plates. The waste was also seized.
