Saint Charbel, other miracles attributed in 2026: from healings to the oil miracle in Naples

Saint Charbel continues to be the focus of reports of healings and miracles in 2026. In the first few months of the year, two new cases were reported, one in the United States and one in Lebanon, attributed by the faithful to his intercession. Added to these episodes is the incident in Naples in 2025, where a vial containing the saint's blessed oil reportedly filled up again after being used to anoint hundreds of people.

The story of Saint Charbel Makhlouf, a Lebanese monk and hermit who died in 1898 and was canonized by Paul VI in 1977, has for decades been linked to tales of healings considered inexplicable. His shrine in Annaya, Lebanon, continues to attract pilgrims from various countries.

Saint Charbel, the two new miracles attributed in 2026

In January 2026, two new healings attributed to the intercession of Saint Charbel were reported. The cases involved two women, one in the United States and one in Lebanon, and were recorded on January 17 at the Monastery of Saint Maron in Annaya.

The first case is that of Georgianne Walker , an American woman who faced complications following surgery. According to the story reported by religious sources, the wound failed to heal despite weeks of treatment and antibiotics, and doctors scheduled another operation.

In September 2025, Walker received blessed oil from Saint Charbel from a person who also reported a healing attributed to the saint. The woman then began praying to Saint Charbel and applying the oil to her wound.

According to his testimony, the lesion later healed, making the planned surgery unnecessary. The case was subsequently registered at the Annaya Monastery.

The tumor in my spine disappeared before surgery

Even more particular is the case reported in Lebanon.

Racha Charbel , originally from Jezzine, underwent an MRI scan in October 2025 after experiencing severe back pain. The scan revealed a meningioma in her spine, approximately 2,3 centimeters long.

Doctors reportedly scheduled a follow-up checkup and considered surgery as a necessary solution. The evening before the new MRI, Racha prayed before an image of Saint Charbel, asking for his intercession.

The next day, during a follow-up examination, the tumor was no longer visible. The woman then went to the Annaya Monastery to share her experience and record her healing.

This, too, is a healing attributed by the faithful to the intercession of Saint Charbel . The wording is important: the fact that an episode is recounted as miraculous does not automatically mean that it has been recognized as a miracle by the Church through a specific canonical procedure.

The case of Naples: the oil of San Charbel is filled again

Among the most surprising events linked to the devotion to Saint Charbel in Italy is the one that occurred in Naples on 24 July 2025 , in the church of San Ferdinando di Palazzo, in Piazza Trieste e Trento.

The incident occurred during the celebration dedicated to the Lebanese saint, attended by over 500 people . At the end of the Mass, the parish priest, Monsignor Pasquale Silvestri, began anointing the faithful with the blessed oil of Saint Charbel, which had arrived from the Maronite Curia in Rome.

The number of people present, however, exceeded expectations. The oil in the vial gradually diminished until it seemed practically empty. The priest nevertheless managed to complete the anointing of the faithful who had requested it.

Then came the moment that transformed that celebration into a case that was also covered by the international press.

After closing the vial and putting it away, the priest reportedly noticed that the container was once again full of oil . Monsignor Silvestri said he was incredulous at what he was seeing and checked the vial again before reporting what had happened to those present.

The phenomenon is said to have occurred after the anointing of around 500 people and was therefore interpreted by the faithful present as a miracle linked to the intercession of Saint Charbel.

The story was also reported by ACI Prensa , which collected the priest's testimony. According to reports, the ampoule would remain available to the authorities for any investigations.

Even a healing told in Naples

The miracle of the oil was not the only episode recounted in the Neapolitan church.

Also on July 24, 2025, a young parishioner reported to the priest that she had received a healing attributed to Saint Charbel that morning after being diagnosed with breast cancer . According to the story reported by EWTN, the woman reported that the tumor had disappeared and that the doctors had not expected such a result.

Even in this case, however, it is a testimony of healing attributed to the saint , not a miracle that should automatically be considered officially recognized by the Church.

Why Saint Charbel is considered the “doctor of heaven”

Saint Charbel's fame as a miracle-working saint is linked to a long tradition of healings and extraordinary phenomena.

Born in Lebanon in 1828 with the name Youssef Makhlouf, he entered the Lebanese Maronite Order and became a priest in 1859. In 1875 he retired to a hermitage, where he spent the last years of his life dedicating himself to prayer, penance and asceticism.

After his death on December 24, 1898, numerous stories of healings and other phenomena considered extraordinary began to emerge around his tomb. Vatican News also recalls the events surrounding the tomb and the subsequent examinations of the monk's body.

Saint Charbel was beatified by Paul VI in 1965 and canonized by the same pontiff on October 9, 1977. The Vatican continues to remember him as one of the most important figures of Maronite spirituality and as a saint particularly linked to devotion for the sick.

The miracles of Saint Charbel continue to be discussed

The events of 2026 thus rekindle a question that has haunted the figure of the Lebanese saint for decades: how many of the healings attributed to Saint Charbel can be considered true miracles?

The answer requires caution. A personal testimony, even when accompanied by medical documentation, does not automatically equate to canonical recognition. For this reason, sources generally speak of "attributed miracles," "healings," or "wonders . "

The strength of devotion, however, remains evident. From the Annaya Monastery to Italian churches, Saint Charbel continues to be invoked by the sick and by the faithful seeking healing or help in the most difficult times.

And the case of Naples represents one of the most recent and singular episodes linked to his devotion in Italy: a vial almost emptied after the anointing of hundreds of faithful and then found full again, on the very day of the saint's liturgical feast.

Meanwhile, in 2026, two new cases of healing reported in the United States and Lebanon have added further chapters to a story that, through faith, testimonies, and questions, continues to arouse interest well beyond Lebanon's borders.
