Salerno, illegal kennel in a private home: part of the building seized

Salerno – Forty-one dogs were kept in critical sanitary conditions, inside and outside a private home where a woman lived with her eighty-year-old mother. This was confirmed by the Salerno Municipal Police during an intervention by the Environmental Unit and the Security Operations Unit, carried out following a report from the families of the two residents.

The report revealed a state of disrepair and the presence of numerous animals on the property. The officers therefore conducted an inspection to assess the condition of the building and the areas designated for dogs.

Nineteen boxes made outside

During the checks, the 41 animals were found both inside the home and in the outdoor areas. Specifically, a structure consisting of 19 pens, each equipped with a kennel, had been built outside.

According to the operators' findings, the area was organized as a kennel-shelter, but it lacked the necessary health and administrative authorizations.

Veterinarians from the local health authority were also involved.

Veterinary staff from the Local Health Authority (ASL) and the Collective Prevention Service also participated in the operation, having intervened at the Municipality's request to carry out the relevant investigations.
The operators verified the hygiene and health conditions of the environments and the animals, evaluating the measures necessary to protect their health and ensure the safety of the area.

Partial seizure and documents forwarded to the Public Prosecutor's Office

Given the conditions found, the Judicial Police ordered the partial seizure of the property and the seizure of some of the animals. This measure was taken with the aim of protecting the dogs' well-being and restoring adequate hygiene and safety conditions.
The documents from the operation have been forwarded to the Salerno Public Prosecutor's Office. It will now be up to the judicial authorities to order further investigations and assess any applicable measures.
