Salerno – It was the evening of September 23rd when a 23-year-old woman was attacked in the heart of Salerno's historic center. It was around 9:30 PM and the young woman was in Largo San Tommaso d'Aquino when she was allegedly surprised from behind by an unknown man.
According to what the victim told investigators, the man attacked her for no apparent reason, first kicking and punching her and then stabbing her in the back of the neck with a knife.
The 23-year-old's condition required emergency medical services. Officers from the Office of General Prevention and Public Rescue, along with paramedics from 118, arrived on the scene.
The young woman was rushed to the emergency room with critical illness, where she received the necessary treatment. The consequences of her injuries also required blood transfusions.
The next day, the 23-year-old was discharged from the hospital with a prognosis of 21 days.
Since then, investigations have begun to reconstruct the dynamics of the attack and trace the identity of the perpetrator.
Investigations conducted by the Salerno Flying Squad, coordinated by the Public Prosecutor's Office, have led to the identification of the person believed to be responsible for the attack.
Investigators are now working to complete the investigative framework and acquire further evidence to help them reconstruct precisely what happened that evening.
In the last few hours, the Salerno Public Prosecutor's Office authorized the release of photographs of the alleged attacker. The aim is to gather any testimonies or information that could contribute to the identification and reconstruction of the events.
The Police Headquarters invites anyone with useful information to contact the switchboard at 089.613111 or to go to the offices of the "Pisacane" Barracks, on Via Sant'Eremita.
