Inmate returns from interviews with drugs in his underwear in Secondigliano: reported

Naples – An attempt to bypass security and smuggle narcotics into the prison system was foiled at the Secondigliano prison in Naples. An inmate was discovered and stopped by prison officers as he attempted to return to his unit with approximately 23 grams of drugs cleverly concealed in his underwear.

The raid on the interview department

The operation was successfully conducted by the men and women of the Mediterranean Unit, who performed routine surveillance and inspections following interviews with family members. Thanks to the operators' professionalism and keen eye, the attempted evasion of controls was thwarted, preventing the drugs from reaching the detention units and fueling the domestic black market.

SAPPE raises alarm: "This is an episode that should give us pause for thought."

Donato Capece, Secretary General of SAPPE (Autonomous Union of Penitentiary Police), spoke out forcefully on the incident, emphasizing the extremely high level of complexity that characterizes daily work behind bars.

"The discovery of 23 grams of drugs, hidden in an inmate's boxers at the end of an interview, clearly demonstrates how essential it is to maintain extremely high levels of vigilance," Capece declared, highlighting how the current government and prison administration have shown greater vigilance than in the past, while reiterating the need for "concrete, urgent, and courageous action."

The voice of the territory and the demand for modern tools

Raffaele Munno, deputy regional secretary of the SAPPE for Campania, echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the risks associated with drug trafficking within prisons: "The Secondigliano incident is a sobering one. Behind every intercepted drug is an attempt to undermine the already fragile balance of prison life, fueling tension and conflict."

In closing, the union made a heartfelt appeal to political institutions to ensure that prison security is not left solely to the selflessness and sense of duty of officers. The unanimous request is to provide prison police with personnel, equipment, cutting-edge technology, and ongoing training—tools now considered essential to counter increasingly sophisticated criminal threats and tactics.
