Starting October 5th, young doctors in training will be working in the Community Houses, Community Hospitals, and the Virtual Community Hospital in Nocera Inferiore, as part of an agreement between the Salerno Local Health Authority and Federico II University to strengthen community medicine.

Residents serving community healthcare: the integrated network between the Salerno–Federico II Local Health Authority and the Nocera Inferiore Virtual Hospital begins.
Starting October 5th, an agreement between the Salerno Local Health Authority and the University of Naples Federico II has been in effect, integrating specialized training and community services. Trainee doctors will begin providing services within the local healthcare network of the local health authority, contributing to the activities of the Community Houses and Community Hospitals, as well as the Virtual Community Hospital in Nocera Inferiore, the operational hub of the digital healthcare and social care network.
The initiative is promoted by Gennaro Sosto, Director General of the Salerno Local Health Authority, Professor Cacciatore, and Dr. Antonio Coppola, head of the Telemedicine and Artificial Intelligence Process Governance Unit, as part of a healthcare model that is increasingly citizen-centric, integrated, and digital.
The young doctors will be involved in patient care, chronic condition management, and continuity of care, with a particular focus on supporting the Virtual Community Hospital in Nocera Inferiore, the network's operational hub. The goal is to offer residents firsthand experience in the local area and enhance services, strengthening community medicine to meet the needs of an aging and fragile population.
According to Dr. Antonio Coppola, the arrival of the residents represents an added value for the project: innovation isn't just technological, but involves training professionals capable of using new solutions to concretely improve people's lives. Community medicine requires a patient-centered vision and the ability to organize the system around their needs.
Through the Virtual Hospital and the regional network, young doctors are offered the opportunity to contribute to a new model of care, where technology, professional expertise, and human relationships coincide with the mission of caring for people.
The launch of these activities confirms the Salerno Local Health Authority's strategy of investing in the integration of the university, hospital, and community, enhancing the education of new generations and building a healthcare system based on proximity, digital innovation, and a person-centered approach.
