Mauro Bertini, former mayor of Marano in office from 1993 to 2006, is running again. Seventy-five years old in February and with five candidacies under his belt, he is preparing to face his sixth electoral campaign at the head of his historic list, “l'Altra Marano”, counting on the support of Potere al Popolo. The decision of the former leader of Rifondazione matured in recent days and after a long and tormented debate within the radical left. “It is the best resource among those officially in the field,” explains Mauro Di Mauro, former city secretary of Rifondazione and exponent of Potere al Popolo. “Before granting our approval, we called a public meeting during which it clearly emerged that the only path to follow was that of supporting Bertini.”
Bertini was elected for the first time in 1993 during the Tangentopoli storm and Marano also suffered the shame of being dissolved due to mafia, so the arrival of Mauro Bertini was welcomed as a breath of fresh air in a context dominated by corruption and wild illegal building.
