“Regina Madre”, one of the most important texts by Manlio Santanelli, will be on stage at the Teatro Nuovo in Naples, from Wednesday 20 March 2019 at 21.00:24 pm (repeats until Sunday XNUMX), proposed in the reading of Carlo Cerciello, who also intervenes in part in the adaptation of the text, and interpreted by Fausto Russo Alesi and Imma Villa. With this production, which comes after the positive reception from critics and the public obtained for “Scannasurice” and “Bordello di mare con città” by Enzo Moscato, Elledieffe and Carlo Cerciello continue the work dedicated to contemporary Italian dramaturgy with the staging of another jewel. “Regina Madre” takes its cue from a classic 'homecoming'. Alfredo, a gray fifty-year-old marked by failure, shows up at the home of his mother, Regina, declaring his determination to stay there, to assist her or die at her feet. But the old lady, although afflicted by every kind of infirmity, belongs to the category of indestructible matriarchs. A tense duel thus begins between the two characters on stage, conducted through an uninterrupted exchange of blackmail and retaliation, lies and fabrications from which a psychological duel arises, fought with the deadly weapon of words. A deeply ambiguous drama, set in a place of the mind where a real generational clash comes to life. The characters' continuous recourse to lies, the continuous oscillation between truth and fiction, are unmistakable signs of the text developed in the staging, to declare on the one hand the fascination of the exercise of power and, on the other, the inability to grow up, to become adults and to definitively free oneself from the maternal figure. "In Regina Madre - as the director wrote in a note - one immediately has the impression that the character of the Mother is in reality the mirror, or rather, the projection of the suffering that grips the Son, profoundly conditioning his existence; Santanelli, shares the same failed destiny with Alfredo and his sister Lisa, absent in the work, but continually cited. This game of massacre, therefore, childishly acted out and suffered, suggested to me to stage the text, giving concreteness to the oneiric and psychological ritual of two brothers grappling with the ghost of the Mother”. “Regina Madre” is a staging project strongly desired and shared by Cerciello, Russo Alesi and Villa who, after having worked together, two years ago, in the successful edition of Seneca's Phaedra at the Greek Theatre of Syracuse, found themselves, today, engaged again in a complex test. The staging makes use of the scenes by Roberto Crea, the music by Paolo Coletta, the costumes by Daniela Ciancio, the lights by Cesare Accetta.
