The Consortium for the Protection of Mozzarella di Bufala Campana DOP and the Consortium for the Protection of Pasta di Gragnano IGP united to protect and enhance the two excellences of Made in Italy. A "Super Consortium" worth approximately 1 billion in turnover. The two main Consortia for the Protection of DOP and IGP agri-food products in Central and Southern Italy have in fact signed a collaboration agreement that will see them create a hub for the protection and enhancement of Mozzarella di Bufala Campana and Pasta di Gragnano, the most well-known and appreciated agri-food products of our country on tables all over the world, which also drive the tourism sector. An agreement under which the two Consortia will collaborate from today to carry out the activities of surveillance, protection, promotion and enhancement of their respective DOP/IGP, and to create synergies regarding the main institutional activities for which they are responsible. As mentioned, the synergy alone is worth approximately 1 billion euros in turnover: this is the value expressed by the companies registered in the control system and associated with both Consortia. "We are thrilled to have started such an important collaboration between the two Consortia" says Aurora Casillo, President of the Consortium for the Protection of Pasta di Gragnano PGI. "We share in this partnership - she continues - a strategic and highly innovative vision towards the creation of a reality in the Italian, European and global agri-food panorama of extraordinary institutional importance and powerful economic impact. After all, pasta and mozzarella already in themselves mean 'Italy' everywhere in the world. The joint promotion of these two agri-food excellences lays the foundations for creating an international point of reference for the protection and promotion of agri-food". For Domenico Raimondo, president of the Consortium for the Protection of Mozzarella di Bufala Campana PDO, "this signature has an economic value of absolute relevance. The synergies we have identified have created a hub of Italian excellence. We are talking about two of the most representative products of Italian cuisine in the world and two pillars of the Mediterranean diet. This is a highly stimulating initiative that unites two products with geographical indications with positive repercussions on both supply chains. “Supervision, promotion and research are the three paths on which our collaboration will move – continues the director of the Mozzarella Consortium Pier Maria Saccani – with great attention to foreign markets”
