Important results from the WWF anti-poaching campaign in Campania, held from 15 April to 30 May.
As many as 12 poachers reported, including the elusive “Black Arrow” of Ischia; 28 prohibited electro-acoustic decoys seized, 35 administrative reports; 21 reports, via PEC, of sites with the presence of abandoned waste (including hazardous and special waste); 2 waste fires prevented; 2 reports of polluting sewage discharges into rivers and canals.

In Ischia, thanks to the investigations of the Carabinieri, and the support of the volunteers of CABS and WWF Italy, “Freccianera” has finally been identified and stopped, a notorious poacher who managed to evade justice for years and the various operations carried out by the police forces and voluntary guards of the associations.

There are many crimes contested against the man, who did not have a hunting license, was shooting freely during the hunting season and even used an illegal weapon: a homemade rifle even equipped with a silencer. Apparently, the WWF statement reads, he was also used to shooting right in the centre of town in Forio, a town on the western side of Isola Verde.

This year, for the first time, the Province of Caserta was also involved. Historically the camp has always taken place in Ischia and on the Sorrento-Amalfi Peninsula. In recent years, the WWF, through the Game and Zoofile Guards, has extended its commitment to all the territories of the provinces of Naples, Salerno and Caserta, with particular attention to protected natural areas (national and regional parks).
WOUNDED WILD ANIMALS ALSO RECOVERED
In addition, many injured wild animals were recovered, including hawks, a porcupine and three owls. All transported to the Veterinary Hospital of Frullone in Naples. A constant commitment, that of the WWF Guards, which lasts all year round but in the spring period it is concentrated precisely in the coastal areas of Campania and on the islands, in particular Ischia. Particular attention is paid to the protection of Nature and the environment by the WWF sworn guards.
