The Archbishop of Amalfi, Monsignor Orazio Soricelli, to priests and deacons. 'Get vaccinated'
After the bishops of Salerno and Teano who prohibited unvaccinated priests from distributing the Eucharist, and the archbishop of Benevento who suspended in-person catechesis activities, the list of bishops in Campania who are ordering the priests of their dioceses to take anti-Covid contagion measures is growing.
The latest in chronological order is the Archbishop of Amalfi-Cava de' Tirreni, Monsignor Orazio Soricelli, who addressed “to all the priests, deacons, religious men and women and lay people of the Archdiocese” with the appeal to “intensify all efforts to prevent any further contagion of Covid”.
The archbishop has ordered abstention “from every type of pastoral service” for anyone “has fever, flu symptoms or is in isolation due to testing positive”, but above all he asked “to all priests, deacons and religious who work in the Diocese, in an explicit and binding manner in conscience, in light of what the Holy Father has indicated to us, to undergo vaccination to protect themselves, others and in particular the vulnerable”.
Furthermore, the Archbishop of Amalfi-Cava has ordered the interruption of catechesis “and to reactivate the remote one”.
Finally, “for visiting the elderly and the sick”, Monsignor Soricelli recommends “a lot of caution, evaluating individual cases and asking for the explicit consent of family members.”
