Napoli. The inauguration session of the new Metropolitan Council of Santa Maria la Nova was held this afternoon in the council chamber of the monumental complex of Santa Maria la Nova. Napoli as emerged from the elections of March 13th.
Come primo atto l’Assemblea ha preso atto, infatti, con voto unanime, dell’esito favorevole della condizione di tutti gli eletti. Successivamente il sindaco Metropolitano, Gaetano Manfredi, ha rivolto il suo benvenuto ai nuovi Consiglieri e il suo ringraziamento a tutti coloro che si sono candidati.
“The City Metropolitan è un ente di governo molto importante perché rappresenta quello strumento di governo del territorio indispensabile per metter in moto le grandi politiche di area vasta nei settori dell’urbanistica, della mobilità e dei trasporti, delle politiche scolastiche, turistiche, e di tante altre che possono essere sviluppate nella nostra città. Una città di grandi numeri, tre milioni di abitanti, grandi complessità e difficoltà ma che ha bisogno di un governo saldo”.
"We are moving - continued the metropolitan mayor - towards a season of large investments such as those of the PNRR and cohesion funds. This type of resources, when they have been allocated, have not always been intercepted and spent in our territories. These are issues on which we must confront ourselves. We must ensure that our Metropolitan City can best carry out its role of supporting municipalities to identify which are the financing policies to improve the quality of services and consequently the quality of life of citizens".
"President Draghi - Manfredi underlined - has also highlighted, on the one hand, the willingness of the Government to support the South, but he has also underlined the difficulties that have existed up to now in terms of planning capacity and spending capacity. It is a complicated challenge, but I am very confident that we will be able to carry it forward, also thanks to the great willingness of the central government to support the development of Naples and its metropolitan area".
The Mayor then recalled the funding for the subway line 10 announced yesterday by the Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, Enrico Giovannini, "a line that starts from Naples but serves many municipalities in the metropolitan area", and "the extraordinary intervention for schools planned by Minister Patrizio Bianchi". "The political action that we will carry forward - concluded the Mayor - will start from two assumptions: the citizens of the metropolitan area are all equal, they must have equal opportunities and equal rights, and the Mayors are all equal, because they represent the municipalities and must all be part of this project. This is the commitment that I make and I was happy to say it in this chamber".
Subsequently, Councilors of the political forces present at the meeting spoke, who expressed their willingness to dialogue and to participate in a path of promotion and growth of the Metropolitan City, understood as an Institution and as a territory. A minute of silence was then observed in the Chamber for the victims of the war in Ukraine.
