“They stopped me on the street and said, Madam, don’t you recognize us? We are friends of your son, he said you have to pay us.”This is what a 78 year old woman declared to the Carabinieri of the station Rome Talents who saved her after seeing her talking to two suspicious individuals in via Monte Massico at the intersection of via Monte Catinaccio, yesterday afternoon. Coordinated by the Rome Public Prosecutor's Office, the Carabinieri arrested the two men aged 67 and 42, of Napoli, who are now accused of fraud.
The soldiers were passing by during a patrol service and noticed the elderly woman sitting in the car with the two men, with banknotes in her hand. The woman stated that the two men had made her believe that her son owed her 1500 euros and that she was the one who had to pay them.
With skill, as they unfortunately know how to do, they also induced the victim to speak to a person on the phone who pretended to be her son, reassuring her, convincing her to get into the car to go and withdraw cash from an ATM.
Fortunately, this time, the control services and the particular attention paid by the Carabinieri at the Provincial level allowed them to immediately intercept the shady movements and arrest the two men in flagrante delicto.
Taken to Piazzale Clodio, the arrest of both was validated and a ban on leaving the municipality of was issued for them, pending trial. Napoli, with the obligation to remain at home from 20pm to 6am.
