Caserta – “Today is a historic day for Caserta. We are signing a protocol that marks an epochal turning point for the territory: the recovery of the former Canapificio, the creation of a hemp museum, an airport, a bus terminal with a large parking area and pedestrian paths to the Reggia”.
With these words, the President of the Campania Region, Vincenzo De Luca, announced the signing of the memorandum of understanding between the Campania Region, the Municipality of Caserta and Air Campania for the creation of a multi-service hub in the area of the former Canapificio.
The agreement, signed at Palazzo Santa Lucia in the presence of the mayor of Caserta Carlo Marino and the sole director of Air Campania Anthony Acconcia, represents a fundamental step for the urban redevelopment and tourism development of the province.
“This is a crucial intervention for mobility – explained De Luca – to which is added another project financed for the Curia of Caserta: a large green park within the city, which will be built in an area of ecclesiastical property”.
A TERRITORY IN TRANSFORMATION
Caserta, the governor recalled, is a province that “has received the attention it deserved”. In past years, the Region has invested in transportation, healthcare, the environment and new hospital infrastructures, such as the Policlinico.
"When we arrived - De Luca underlined - there were government commissioners at the hospital, a transport company under special administration for Camorra infiltration and serious environmental problems. Today we have the blue flag on the Domitian coast and we are working on the master plan for the development of the coast".
The redevelopment project of the former Canapificio, which involves an area of approximately 23 thousand square meters (of which 15.600 are regional property), includes the creation of a museum center dedicated to the processing of hemp, a bus terminal with 29 stalls, shelters, maneuvering areas and spaces for charging electric buses. A waiting room, a food area, charging stations for electric cars and bike sharing stations will complete the offer.
A HUB FOR SUSTAINABLE MOBILITY
“With the increase in tourist flows, favored by the museum complex and the surrounding attractions, it is essential to enhance transport services – said Anthony Acconcia of Air Campania –. The new Bus Terminal will be a strategic intermodal hub, which will integrate buses, trains and sharing services, ensuring more efficient and sustainable mobility”.
The initiative, the result of collaboration between the Campania Region, Air Campania, the Municipality of Caserta and RFI, is part of a broader urban redevelopment plan, which aims to enhance the former Canapificio and the former market area.
“Thanks to the foresight of President De Luca – added Acconcia – we are creating a work that unites past and future, integrating urban redevelopment, public spaces and mobility”.
CULTURE AND TOURISM AT THE CENTER
The project will not only improve tourist reception, but will also enhance local beauties, such as the Royal Palace of c, the Belvedere di San Leucio and Casertavecchia. “Caserta is a province with enormous potential – concluded De Luca – and with these investments we are building a better future for the citizens and for those who will visit our territory”.
A future that, thanks to careful planning and a shared vision, promises to transform Caserta into a model of sustainable, cultural and economic development.
