In times of high energy prices, he thought of paying what the two representatives of an electricity company who showed up at his home were asking for, in order to avoid worse trouble.
When they rang the doorbell of an 83-year-old pensioner from Parma, they showed him some unpaid bills and, under threats and deception, convinced him to pay 1.500 euros to pay everything back. The two employees were scammers, but this time the scam failed thanks to a bank employee.
The pensioner, to pay the fake bills, went with one of the two, a 28-year-old woman living in Reggio Emilia, to the bank. The elderly man, very confused, asked to withdraw the money to give it to the woman who, in the meantime, had introduced herself as his step-niece.
The cashier, however, immediately understood everything and called the police, who stopped the woman and her accomplice, a 25-year-old from the province of Salerno, who remained in the car outside the bank branch. The two were arrested for attempted fraud in collaboration.
