“They robbed the rectory but they didn’t take away my joy at Christmas.”
The parish priest of the Maria Santissima Immacolata church in Qualiano, Francesco Martino, reported it with a video message on social media. The thieves forced the door of the rectory just as the parish priest was celebrating Christmas mass. They broke the lock and then took the priest's shirts, knotting them to make a rope used to lower themselves from the window.
A video that in a few hours has had over ten thousand views on Facebook with hundreds of comments of solidarity to the parish priest who took advantage of the video message to wish his faithful a happy birthday and tell them about the visit of the lafri.
And recalling the words of the Pope, the parish priest wanted to explain that he feels guilty for not being able to make these people understand the value of the word of God and the Gospel. "I also pray for them and I forgive them all."
"The Pro Loco Qualiano also expresses its full solidarity for the vile, irrational and reckless act in which Father Francesco Martino was involved. When a bulwark, on the front line for the assistance to those in poverty, witness and disseminator of solidarity, Faith and civilization, is hit, it is as if the entire community is hit", reads a message released by the Pro Loco.
