There is confusion mixed with anger Marano for the suicide of the 52 year old entrepreneur Giovanni Cerqua.
The man was found lifeless inside the carpentry shop he owned in Marano, which had been seized a month ago by municipal police officers for violations of environmental regulations. Giovanni's body was found last night by the Carabinieri of the local station, alerted by the report of his family, who had been unable to contact him for several hours.
Next to the body, the faithful Lupin, his dog, who was watching over his master. The carabinieri also found a farewell letter, five pages long, addressed to his family in which he explains the reasons for his extreme gesture.
The seizure involved machinery, a hundred paint containers, painting equipment and the building. The magistrate on duty ordered the seizure of the businessman's body, on which an autopsy will be performed.
There were many comments on social media following the news of his death: “Of course it is necessary to do everything possible for the environment, but the approach cannot be only repressive and destructive, the necessary adjustments to the regulations are expensive and sometimes the small entrepreneur does not have the strength to sustain them, perhaps as in the case of poor Giovanni Cerqua.
Our public administrators, all together, could also devise an intervention plan suitable for safeguarding the environment, the life and the activity of the poor devils, instead of leaving them at the mercy of the waters, with their activity seized and with fines to pay.
I cannot help but be saddened to read this news and also angry at the administrative incompetence of our country,” wrote an acquaintance.
Nappi (Lega), questioning the trigger for the extreme gesture
The story also intervened Severino Nappi, leader of the League in the Campania Regional Council: "Respect for the rules must also be the basis of every business activity. However, we must question ourselves and investigate thoroughly the trigger that led a worker, a 52-year-old father of a family to commit an extreme act.
Giovanni's story is unfortunately only the latest of many entrepreneurs who, crushed by the suffocating grip of bureaucracy, preventive seizures, administrative delays and the lack of support from local institutions to small and medium-sized businesses, slip into a spiral of despondency that leads to taking their own lives. We join Giovanni's family, to whom we express our utmost closeness for the loss of their loved one".
