Drones and postal packages: these are some of the methods used to introduce cell phones and drugs into the Salerno prison, according to what emerged from the investigations carried out by the Flying Squad and coordinated by the Salerno Prosecutor's Office, which culminated in the execution of precautionary measures against 53 people.
In the order issued by the investigating judge of the Court of Salerno, the suspects are charged with the crimes of criminal association aimed at the sale of narcotic substances, criminal association aimed at the illicit introduction into prison of devices suitable for the communication of detained subjects and numerous crimes aimed at.
The investigating judge ordered the precautionary custody in prison for 35 suspects, house arrest for another 9, the obligation to reside in their respective municipalities of residence for 7 suspects, the obligation to reside in the province of Salerno for one suspect and the interdiction for one year from practicing law for a lawyer.
The investigations have shed light on a serial activity of introducing, inside the Salerno prison, cell phones, other computer equipment and various types of narcotic substances, in particular cocaine, hashish and marijuana, episodes that occurred between December 2020 and October 2022.
The material would then be sold by the members of the association to other inmates at prices significantly higher than those practiced "on the market". The introduction into prison was carried out from outside the facility using drones or through deliveries during the inmates' weekly meetings with their families, as well as finally through the sending of postal packages to inmates in which, together with the goods whose introduction was permitted, drugs or microphones would be hidden.
Furthermore, the precautionary seizure of numerous Postepay cards registered to or in any case available to the suspects was ordered, as the investigators believe that the illicit proceeds of criminal activities attributable to the criminal association flowed into these cards.
