Mafia boss Matteo Messina Denaro, 61, died in L'Aquila hospital where he was being treated for colon cancer.
The boss was arrested on January 16th in a Palermo clinic after thirty years on the run. He had been in an irreversible coma since last Friday.
At Messina Denaro's bedside, in the San Salvatore hospital in L'Aquila, were his daughter Lorenza, his granddaughter Lorenza Guttadauro and the boss's mother, Lorenza Santangelo, over eighty, wife of "Don Ciccio" Messina Denaro, mafia boss of the province of Trapani at the end of the 80s.
The Cosa Nostra boss was in charge of the pain therapy team after the suspension of treatment for terminal cancer. He had been admitted to hospital on August 8, after undergoing chemotherapy in the Costarelle prison, where he was detained under the 41 bis regime.
