Whirlpool Napoli, Camusso: “The government should call a meeting immediately”

The troubled corporate affairs involving Whirlpool's plants in Campania never seem to have a positive outcome, despite negotiations and investment proposals aimed at preventing the multinational's exit from the Campania region.

The presence of the industrial group has represented for years an occupational garrison and a barrier to unemployment, irregular employment relationships and widespread crime. However, despite the agreements signed, since 2018, the Whirlpool group has started a drastic corporate downsizing with collective dismissal procedures.

In the context of this complex affair, the situation of the Teverola site in Caserta seems to be particularly critical”. This is what the Democratic Party senator, Susanna Camusso, first signatory of a question, signed by numerous Democratic Party parliamentarians and addressed to the ministers of business and Made in Italy and of labor and social policies.

“The plant, the subject of the framework agreement between Whirlpool Europe and Indesit Company signed on 24 July 2015, was a fundamental part of a reindustrialisation programme with which – explains Camusso – the aim was to launch an industrial initiative in the disused Teverola site that would have allowed the re-employment of Whirlpool's workforce”.

Retracing the dispute in recent years in the text, the senator concludes: “We therefore ask the ministers in question to proceed with the immediate convening of a round table with the parties involved and what urgent measures they deem necessary to adopt to guarantee compliance with the 2017 development contract, compliance with financial commitments and the safeguarding of employment levels”.
