A new football field is being built in Secondigliano, in the area that was once a stronghold of the Di Lauro clan. The pitch, redeveloped thanks to a fundraiser promoted by Fatto Quotidiano, was inaugurated today with the name “A kick to the Camorra”.
The camp will be available to the neighborhood kids, but on one specific condition: they will have to attend school. The volunteers who will follow them will check their report cards every four months and, if necessary, will help them to overcome any gaps. The goal is twofold: to take the kids off the streets and to fight truancy, a phenomenon that is unfortunately widespread in Secondigliano.
The inauguration was attended by the prosecutor of Naples Nicola Gratteri, the national anti-mafia prosecutor Gianni Melillo, Mayor Gaetano Manfredi and several other personalities. All of them underlined the importance of this initiative as a symbol of legality and redemption for the neighborhood.
The contribution of many
The redevelopment of the field was possible thanks to the generosity of 500 readers of the Fatto Quotidiano who raised 26 thousand euros. Vuolo Group company of Castellammare di Stabia has instead restored the fences.
A new space for sport and socialising
The new football pitch, which extends over approximately one thousand square metres, is located on the edge of the “Laudati” municipal park. The boys of Secondigliano, who until now have found hospitality in some parish spaces, will finally be able to play in a fully equipped and free structure (the only cost required is 10 euros per year for insurance).
The inauguration of the field A Kick to the Camorra represents a new beginning for Secondigliano. The institutions, associations and citizens of the neighborhood have committed to collaborate to keep this space active and safe, which will become a point of reference for young people and for the entire community.
Il anti-mafia prosecutor Melillo invited Mayor Manfredi to “to bet on the associationism of this area and to assign the necessary spaces”. Manfredi accepted the appeal and assured that another structure located nearby will also be made available.
The new soccer field is a sign of hope for the future of Secondigliano. A place where kids can play, have fun and grow together, far from crime and violence. A warning to everyone not to give up and to fight for a better future.
