New layoffs have been announced at the Stellantis plant in Pomigliano d'Arco, where workers will be on standstill for five days (August 26, September 6, 13, 20, and 27) due to the "complex market situation." The company announced this during a meeting with the unions of Fim, Uilm, Fismic, Uglm, and Aqcfr, who are now calling on Stellantis management to "change course or there will be total darkness," deeming "the climate of uncertainty that affects only workers intolerable."
“The scenario that has been created – union representatives at the factory underlined – is even more worrying if we consider that only in January was the full employment of GB Vico announced, which was finally emerging from the grip of social safety nets after years, and it is unthinkable that the future of the Pomigliano site should depend exclusively on monitoring the performance of Panda.
Since the merger with PSA, no new model has been assigned and produced in the Italian plants, except the Tonale and Hornet which were part of the FCA industrial plan. As rsa Fim, Uilm, Fismic, Uglm and Aqcfr we no longer believe this choice by the Stellantis management is acceptable, which puts all the plants in our country at risk, including the entire supply chain”.
The RSA, therefore, ask that the company reset its "modus operandi, aimed only at announcing the extension of current production by a few years", underlining that all Italian factories "suffer greatly from the lack of new models, while those that have made history in our country are relocated to foreign ones". From the union representatives, moreover, the appeal to the Government to "assume its responsibilities". "We need development - they added - and not catwalks.
The automotive sector in Italy no longer thinks in Italian."
