In the last 10 days, a reduction in the speed of ground uplift has been recorded in the Campi Flegrei, the real trend of which "can be assessed with the data of the next few weeks".
This is what is reported in the weekly surveillance bulletin of the Campi Flegrei released by the Vesuvius Observatory, Naples headquarters of the INGV. The uplift of the ground (a typical phenomenon of bradyseism that characterizes the Campi Flegrei area) recorded at the Gnns station of Rione Terra, the ancient center of Pozzuoli, is about 14 centimeters since January 2024.
Since mid-April, the average value of the lifting speed has been around 20 millimetres, with a reduction in speed recorded in the last 10 days.
In the week from 19 to 25 August, to which the latest surveillance bulletin refers, 34 earthquakes were located in the Campi Flegrei with a maximum magnitude of 2.0. Two seismic swarms were recorded by the Vesuvius Observatory: the first from 10.59 on August 20th occurred in the area between Solfatara and Pisciarelli, consisting of 11 earthquakes with a maximum magnitude of 1.0; the second from 11.11 on August 25th in the area between Solfatara and Cigliano, consisting of 7 earthquakes with a maximum magnitude of 1.7.
