These are just some of the elements that emerge from the investigation that has overwhelmed the regional councilor of Campania, Giovanni Zannini. The politician, close to the governor De Luca, is investigated for corruption and extortion.
According to the accusations of the Public Prosecutor's Office of Santa Maria Capua Vetere, Zannini allegedly had illicit relationships with local entrepreneurs, receiving luxury gifts and economic advantages in exchange for administrative favors.
The investigations, conducted by the Carabinieri, led to house searches and a custody order.
“Zannini allegedly used his institutional role to favor the interests of some entrepreneurs, obtaining personal benefits in exchange”, declared the prosecutor Pierpaolo Bruni. “A system of patronage that has corrupted the public administration.”
Among the most striking episodes, the yacht trip in the Gulf of Naples offered by a well-known construction entrepreneur in exchange for Zannini's intervention in a regional practice. And again, the two latest-generation scooters given to the councilor's children by an environmental entrepreneur, in exchange for a municipal contract.
But the accusations do not stop there. According to investigators, Zannini allegedly put pressure on a manager of the Caserta ASL, forcing him to resign in order to favor the appointment of his men. "A real violation of the rules", commented a judicial authority.
