Matteo Salvini enthusiastically commented on his acquittal in the Open Arms trial in Palermo, stating: “I am happy. After 3 years common sense has won, the League has won, Italy has won. The concept that defending borders, defending the homeland, fighting smugglers, traffickers, foreign NGOs and protecting our children is not a crime but a right has won”.
His statement reflects strong support for Italy's border control and security policies, underlining the importance of such measures for the protection of the nation.
Salvini, as deputy prime minister and minister, emphasized the significance of the ruling in relation to his political positions and the government's policies.
