Napoli – A moved crowd gathered today at the chalets of Mergellina to commemorate Francesco Pio Maimone, the young man tragically killed two years ago.
The boy's memory was honored with a touching ceremony, marked by the unveiling of a commemorative plaque, a gesture strongly desired by the Maimone family.
Francesco Pio Maimone lost his life due to a gunshot fired by Francesco Pio Valda, sentenced to life imprisonment in the first degree for the murder. Today's ceremony was attended by the mayor of Naples, Gaetano Manfredi, and the prefect Michele di Bari, who together with the family laid flowers in memory of the young man.
“Francesco Pio lives in our hearts,” declared Father Antonio Maimone, “today marks two years since his death and from today the activities of the Foundation in his memory begin and I hope that other parents will join us to lend a hand in saving these kids from difficult neighborhoods.”
During the commemoration, family and friends wore T-shirts with Francesco Pio's face and the words "Stop crime". His sister Chiara read a moving letter, while students from the Istituto Scjaloia-Cortese-Rodino' in Barra performed a piece of music dedicated to Francesco Pio, with a tribute to Giovanbattista Cutolo, another innocent victim.
The ceremony also saw the participation of institutional and religious figures, including Don Maurizio Patriciello, Don Tonino Palmese, the MEP Francesco Emilio Borrelli, the Councilor for Security of the Municipality of Naples, Antonio De Iesu, and the Regional Councilor for Security, Mario Morcone, as well as representatives of the police force.
