Atena Lucana - A scene worthy of a Wild West movie unfolded this morning on the A2, the Mediterranean Highway, where a stolen vehicle, occupied by three individuals – at least two of whom were foreigners, according to initial reconstructions – transformed a junction into a battlefield.

At the checkpoint of the Carabinieri of the Sala Consilina Company, the three decided not to stop, attempting to escape and even trying to run over one of the soldiers.
The response of the police was not long in coming: a firefight broke out, leaving one of the bandits on the ground, seriously injured and now hospitalized in intensive care at the hospital in Polla.
The other two were stopped and taken to the barracks. The military does not rule out that the trio was part of a gang specializing in apartment burglaries, already in the crosshairs of the investigation.
Highway closed, traffic chaos
To allow for the surveys, Anas temporarily closed the ramps of the Atena Lucana junction, creating traffic disruption. Motorists were diverted to Polla or Sala Consilina, while teams of operatives are working on site to restore traffic flow.
