Napoli – A crime of passion, committed before the terrified eyes of children and teachers at the “Papa Luciani” school in Marano, yesterday took two lives and devastated two families.
Article Key Points
The protagonists of this tragedy were Andrea Izzo, 41, skipper and weapons expert, and Milko Gargiulo, 56, financial broker, shot dead by the ex-partner of the woman with whom he had a relationship.
Now the investigation is focusing on the dynamics that led to the double blood episode. Why didn't Gargiulo's reports trigger more decisive interventions? How much did the lack of reporting of Izzo's previous aggressive behavior weigh?
The suicide killer who loves the good life and guns
Andrea Izzo, father of three children (two of them with the woman at the center of the story), was a man known for his impulsiveness and passion for weapons. His social profiles often portrayed him with rifles, pistols and even next to foreign soldiers.
Although most of his arsenal was found to be regularly held, the Carabinieri of Marano and Vomero are now investigating any irregularities.
A lover of the good life and boats, Izzo had a fiery temper. Some acquaintances described him as a man who had previously passed himself off as a police officer. His relationship with his ex-partner, a well-known merchant in the hilly area of Naples, had long been marked by tension.
After a brief separation – caused by his betrayal – the woman had agreed to take him back into her home, but the relationship remained tense.
Before committing suicide with the same Beretta used to kill Gargiulo, Izzo sent his ex one last, macabre message: a photo of the dying broker, his face bloody, bent over the steering wheel of his BMW.
The victim: broker and personal trainer, had reported the threats
Milko Gargiulo, 56, a broker and personal trainer, was returning home when he was hit by the fatal shots. He lived in Marano, a few steps from the school where the murder took place, a place Izzo knew well, having enrolled one of his children there.
For some time, Gargiulo had been dating Izzo's ex-partner, whom he had met at the gym. A sporty man and fitness enthusiast, he had two adult children from a previous marriage and was trying to rebuild his life. But he knew he was in danger: in recent weeks he had reported Izzo for death threats, but without obtaining protection.
He had confided his fears to friends, but the two reports filed with the State Police were not enough to stop his murderer. A few hours before dying, Gargiulo had posted a last, innocent image on Instagram: a bright sun, with the writing "Good morning".
