Milan – A 51-year-old man of Egyptian origin was seriously stabbed at dawn today in via Napo Torriani, near Milan Central Station.
The attack took place on the street, right in front of the entrance to a hotel. The victim, who was repeatedly hit, was rushed to the Niguarda hospital in red code, where he underwent delicate surgery. The prognosis is currently reserved and his condition is worrying.
The State Police is working on the brutal episode, which immediately began investigations. When the Flying Squad officers arrived, the attacker had already disappeared, disappearing without a trace. The search is underway to track down the person responsible.
Wanted: 35-year-old Neapolitan detained in Bollate and on semi-freedom for work
In the hours that followed, sources close to the investigation revealed a disconcerting detail: the man wanted for the stabbing is an inmate of the Bollate prison who was on external work and who violated the obligation to return to the institution.
The attacker, a 35-year-old originally from Naples, worked in the hotel where the violent fight took place, the same hotel where the victim also worked. The latter was hit by several stab wounds to the neck and chest.
The State Police investigators are now busy reconstructing the precise dynamics of the attack and understanding the direction taken by the fugitive. The immediate proximity of the Central Station and the subway lines to the site of the injury raises fears that the man may have used these means to quickly get away from the area.
In the meantime, the Scientific Police are working to carry out surveys both outside and inside the “Berna” hotel, where despite the incident the usual coming and going of tourists continues.
Investigators are carefully examining images from surveillance cameras in the area to look for evidence that could help identify and capture the alleged stabber, who is currently believed to be a colleague of the victim.
The victim of the attack, of Egyptian origin but with Italian citizenship, has no criminal record. His condition remains critical while the doctors at Niguarda fight to save his life.
The escape of a prisoner from semi-liberty and his involvement in such a violent crime raises questions about the management of external work permits and the need to strengthen controls to prevent similar episodes from happening again.
