Naples – The Prosecutor's Office of Naples North has closed preliminary investigations for 44 people, some of whom are accused of being part of a criminal association dedicated to committing fraud through false RCA insurance policies. The charges concern approximately 62 episodes of fraud against citizens residing throughout Italy.
The investigations, coordinated by the public prosecutor Fabio Sozio, have reconstructed the mechanism used by the criminal association. The members of the gang advertised misleading advertisements for the sale of insurance policies for RC Auto coverage on various websites. Through telephone numbers that appeared to be traceable to legitimate insurance agencies, bogus contracts were drawn up.
The modus operandi involved sending the requested sums of money on prepaid cards registered to front men, whose job was to quickly withdraw the cash, making it difficult to trace.
Only during road accidents or checks by the police did the victims bitterly discover that the insurance contracts were, in reality, completely false.
The vast scale of the scam has led to the involvement of a large number of people and the contestation of a wide range of episodes. With the closure of the investigation, the Prosecutor's Office is now preparing to request the indictment of the suspects. The defense team includes lawyers Paolo Caterino, Cristina Orabona, Alberto Mazziotti and Vincenzo Guida.
