Marcianise – They were discovered thanks to the anti-shoplifting alarm, then the Carabinieri reconstructed a well-oiled system: they stole clothing from shops and resold them on a well-known online platform.
On this charge, a 50-year-old woman and her 40-year-old niece, both from Caserta, were arrested yesterday afternoon at the Campania Shopping Centre in Marcianise.
The alarm was raised by the security staff of a well-known clothing store. The anti-shoplifting devices, present on the stolen items, signaled the passage of the two women. Carabinieri of the Marcianise Company, who intervened immediately, blocked them.
Following a search, clothing items worth over 400 euros were recovered. T-shirts, sweatshirts, trousers and accessories had been placed in shielded bags, some of which had already been loaded into their car. But it was one of these containers that “betrayed” the thieves, opening as they passed near the anti-shoplifting detector and setting off the alarm.
Online Selling: An Illegal Business
The immediate investigations conducted by the military of the Operational and Radiomobile Nucleus of the Marcianise Company revealed a broader picture. The suspects, immediately after the "hits" carried out in the afternoon on several occasions, put the stolen goods up for sale on a well-known website dedicated to the purchase and exchange of new and used clothing. To do so, they used social media profiles attributable to them, publishing photos of the items with tags.
The recovered stolen goods were returned to the manager of the robbed business. The aunt and nephew, however, were put in handcuffs. After the formal procedures, they were taken to house arrest, at the disposal of the Judicial Authority. They will have to answer for aggravated theft in competition.
The investigations of the Carabinieri of the Marcianise Company continue to identify any accomplices and understand the full extent of the phenomenon.
