Over a thousand people marched on Sunday, June 2, through the streets of Vomero, Naples, to denounce the ongoing massacre in the Gaza Strip.
The procession, organized by the Committee for Peace, Disarmament and Demilitarization of the Territory, saw the participation of numerous pacifist organizations and groups committed to solidarity with the Palestinian people, including local Palestinian communities, various sections of the ANPI, the NoBox network and various social centers.
Between Palestinian flags and visually striking performances — such as that of some protesters dressed in white with fake bloodstains — participants walked through the pedestrian streets of the neighborhood accompanied by the sounds of alarms, drones and bombings, symbolically evoking the living conditions under siege in Gaza.
According to organizers, the Israeli military intervention has already caused the deaths of more than 50.000 people, including nearly 20.000 children, in addition to the systematic destruction of homes and civilian infrastructure.
Several activists spoke during the flash mob, including Father Alex Zanotelli, who condemned the logic of “white supremacy” and relaunched the call for a campaign of boycott, divestment and sanctions (BDS) against Israel.
The square called for an immediate stop to the commercial triangulations involving Italy in arms trafficking with Tel Aviv and the cancellation of the military, economic and academic agreements signed with the Netanyahu government in March 2023.
On Republic Day, which according to the Constitution “repudiates war”, Naples chose to march not among military parades, but alongside the Palestinian people, calling for peace, justice and freedom for all peoples.
