Sant'Arpino – He violently attacked his 67-year-old mother to snatch her purse and steal the money inside.
A 32-year-old local man, already known to the police for crimes against the person, property and drug-related, was arrested by the Carabinieri on charges of aggravated robbery.
The incident occurred late yesterday evening in via Togliatti, a few steps from the victim's home. According to the reconstruction by the military, the man, in an evident state of agitation, hit his mother with punches and shoves in an attempt to take her bag.
Several people, including the attacker's older sister, witnessed the scene and tried in vain to stop him. The old woman, during the fight, fell heavily on the asphalt.
It was the daughter herself, realizing the gravity of the situation, who raised the alarm by calling 112. When the police, the woman was still on the ground, helped by some neighbors and her daughter. The 32-year-old had in the meantime fled, taking the bag with just 40 euros.
Thanks to the analysis of video surveillance images of the area, the military were able to reconstruct the dynamics of the attack and track down the fugitive in a nearby street. He was stopped and taken to the barracks, then transferred to the prison of Santa Maria Capua Vetere.
The mother, fortunately, did not suffer serious injuries but remains under observation for shock. The arrested man will now have to answer for aggravated robbery.
