Napoli – Install surveillance cameras to ensure compliance with preferential lanes and Limited Traffic Zones (ZTL) in Naples.
This is the request forcefully advanced by Unimpresa/Mobilità and Sitan/Atn in a letter addressed to the mayor Gaetano Manfredi, to the councilors for the Budget Pier Paolo Baretta, for Infrastructure Edoardo Cosenza, to the Municipal Police Antonio De Iesu, to the commander of the Local Police Ciro Esposito and to the presidents of the Mobility and Municipal Police commissions, respectively Nino Simeone and Pasquale Esposito.
The letter, signed by Raffaele Serpico and Pasquale Ottaviano, welcomes the proposal of Councilor Simeone, president of the Mobility Commission, who urged "the implementation of a system of control over compliance with the ZTLs through the installation and activation of cameras at all the gates of the preferential lanes".
However, the associations point out that it is necessary to distinguish between preferential lanes and ZTLs, avoiding confusion that could slow down interventions. "The few preferential lanes existing in Naples are invaded by private cars, due to the lack of effective controls", the letter reads.
The associations underline the need for a video surveillance system and protection mechanisms to regulate access, preventing the entry of unauthorized vehicles. “The creation of new preferential lanes, hoped for soon, cannot ignore a priority control and surveillance system,” Serpico and Ottaviano add.
The undersigned recall having already reported in the past the critical issues related to the management of preferential lanes, without obtaining adequate responses. Now, waiting for a "courteous and prompt response", Unimpresa/Mobilità and Sitan/Atn renew the appeal for a rapid and concrete intervention, essential to improve urban mobility and ensure compliance with the rules.
