NApoli– He was caught stealing a young swimmer's backpack and arrested shortly thereafter by the State Police.
It happened on Tuesday afternoon at Lido Mappatella, on the Naples seafront, where officers from the General Prevention Office intervened following a report received by the Operations Room.
According to the reconstruction, a 31-year-old man of Moroccan origin was wandering among the beachgoers, attempting to steal personal belongings left unattended. He was spotted by passersby while walking away with a recently stolen backpack. He was pointed out to the officers, who promptly arrived on the scene and began tracking him down.
Shortly thereafter, the thief was caught and stopped while attempting to flee. During the chase, he had lost his backpack, but it was recovered and returned to its rightful owner.
The man was arrested on charges of aggravated theft.
